What is a Meal Plan?

Good health does not just happen!  We have to be intentional.  Just like we fill our calendars with what we have to do.  We must take our purpose more seriously.  Not being 100% well, can make it challenging to live out your specific purpose.  It is my opinion that we directly affect how often we are sick throughout the year. How? So glad you ask, If we are not intentional about what we are eating, ensuring we are getting  a variety for fruits, vegetables, and whole grains then we are not giving our bodies what they need to fight viruses and diseases. We can even eliminate chronic illness if we are willing to evaluate our meal planning, and make better choices.

A meal plan is a written plan of what you and your family will eat for a specific length of time.  You can create a weekly, biweekly or monthly plan. Meal planning has its benefits.  The benefits are you can answer #1 question in the early evening hour, it can be healthy, and it can help you with your health goals. It also helps you to save money.

Have you heard the expression ‘If you aim at nothing, you will hit it everytime.  This is especially true when it comes to losing unwanted weight.  Do you feel exhausted right after you finish eating?  Even worse, after eating a full meal you’re still hungry.  When nutrients are missing your body will perpetually send hunger signals hoping you will meet the need.  If we eat more of a variety of Fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

When you plan, you will save money.  When you have a plan for what you are eating, you then establish a grocery list for what you will be preparing for the week. A great way to save money is to only purchase the food that is on the grocery list.  The grocery list is how you can stay on budget.  You will ensure you purchase less junk food when you stick to the grocery list. Less food will go to the garbage in essence saving money too.

When you meal planning, you are intentionally taking your health goals into account.  If you know your goal is to eat more healthy food, you will notice before you arrive at the store that you don’t have.   If you are battling diabetes, you are going to ensure less refined sugar.  Your health goals should always be your top priority.  When you have a meal plan, and you create the grocery list, you will not need to go to the Grocery store for items you don’t have on hand.

When you are meal planning well,  you answer the #1 question in the early evening hour, ‘What is for dinner?’  If you take the time to create and write a meal plan with pen and paper or on your electronic device, no one will be able to ask that question.  When the question arises, all everyone has to do is go look at where the plan is posted.  Which minimizes stress when you have a lot of other things that have to be done.

Bonus Tip!  Don’t Menu Plan when you are hungry.  You will not have a clear mind while creating your meal plan, because the hunger pains will take you out.
